Frozen Synapse Prime PS3: Boot Crash Workaround

By | Frozen Synapse Prime | No Comments

Hi guys,

It has come to our attention that a small number of people are having trouble when attempting to launch the PS3 version of Frozen Synapse Prime, specifically when trying to progress past the ‘Change Screen Space’ section of the initial launch process.

Months of work went into testing the game fully before release both internally and as part of the PlayStation submission process so we are shocked to find that a bug of this nature is occurring.

We are investigating the problem now and will endeavour to fix it as soon as possible.

In the meantime, players can use the following steps to bypass the issue:

  1. Locate and delete Frozen Synapse Prime from your PS3 system by pressing Triangle on the game icon and selecting ‘Delete’
  2. Scroll up to the Save Data Utility (PS3) folder
  3. Open the folder and delete any Frozen Synapse Prime data and any Corrupted Data
  4. Re-install Frozen Synapse Prime
  5. Boot Frozen Synapse Prime
  6. When prompted by the system to update to patch 1.01 press the O button to cancel
  7. Proceed past the ‘Change Screen Space’ screen
  8. At this point it is safe to quit the game reboot it and download the patch

We are extremely sorry for any inconvenience caused and will keep you updated with our progress on a permanent solution.

Thank you for your patience!

Frozen Synapse Prime: heading to Steam on November 14th!

By | Frozen Synapse Prime | No Comments

We are pleased to announce that their critically acclaimed remake of Frozen Synapse, Frozen Synapse Prime (Prime), is coming to Steam in November!

With a visual overhaul, an entirely new multiplayer suite and brand new Steam exclusive content, Prime has something for fans old and new.

For those new to the game, Prime is an asynchronous turn-based strategy game that allows players to take on multiple matches simultaneously. It also features a rich single player campaign set within a dystopian future, where players take on the role of a tactician to a resistance group attempting to prevent an evil corporation from taking over a city. Players control an elite strike team of futuristic soldiers, from shotgunners and snipers to grenadiers and machine gunners.

In Prime, players on two separate teams plot paths and issue orders to their squad members, creating a plan on a turn-by-turn basis. They can simulate the plan before committing to it but players then commit to them fully; this is called “Priming” a turn. Both plans are then played out on procedural, 3D, destructible and customizable battlefields and the resulting combat ensues!

FS-Steam03

We have added some brand new features to help players improve their planning and performance; Prime features new 3D cameras, providing a better perspective for planning, along with dynamic cinematic replays so players can re-watch their matches, analyse their planning post-battle and enhance their strategy for future matches. We’ve also added some brand new playable tutorials, tailored to the needs of both the seasoned strategy pro and the tactics novice.

Exclusively for Steam gamers is an entirely new Arena Mode. Arena matches are designed to challenge both fans and newcomers alike; encouraging players to change the way they strategize, changing how they combine the strengths of their units and utilize the surrounding terrain like never before.

FS-Steam04

Fans of the original Frozen Synapse and newcomers also have an opportunity to determine some of the new battlefields in Arena Mode. We have already selected a few and are inviting people to vote on the rest.

Prime will be available on Steam and other PC distribution sites from November 14th; The Prime Soundtrack will also be available, both on its own and in a Prime Soundtrack Edition bundle. All Prime products will have a week long 15% launch discount to sweeten the deal.

Feel free to follow @DoubleElevenLtd for all Prime news or head over to the Prime community hub on Steam. Don’t forget to vote on the battlefields here.

Introducing… Frozen Synapse Arenas – Vote Now!

By | Frozen Synapse Prime | No Comments

Frozen Synapse Prime on Steam will feature brand new exclusive content, in form of Frozen Synapse Prime Arenas!

FIVE unique match types with their own battlegrounds designed specifically for Arena mode will be added to the game and you have the chance to vote on which ones make the final game!

Maps, squads and unit placements are not random in the new Arena matches, but created and balanced specifically for some awesome new multiplayer showdowns.

The Arena maps were conceived by our most devious designers, to challenge players to strategize a little differently, combine the strengths of your squad in new ways, and utilize the terrain like never before.

Which way will you turn in the tightly confined corridors of Claustrophobia? How can you make use of the Rocket Launcher in Necropolis to turn the tides of battle? Where will you position your Snipers in Crossfire? Which team will come out on top in the lawless town of the Dustbowl?

All Arena matches can also be played in Dark mode and against the AI in Skirmish mode.
For the first time, you the fans have the opportunity to help determine some exclusive content for Frozen Synapse!

We’ve picked a few of our favourite Arenas to be included in the game, now it’s your turn to pick the final 2!

Which Arena maps would you like to see go into the game? We’ve shortlisted 5 for you to vote on; Claustrophobia, Crossfire, Dustbowl, Maelstrom and Necropolis. Take a look at each Arena map, the squad positions and choose your favourites.

The two that get the highest number of votes will be selected as Frozen Synapse Prime Arenas and will be available when the game launches!

The Voting Rules…

Place your vote below and then if you like Tweet us your favourite Arena and why using the hashtag #FSP[NameOfArena] – for example #FSPCrossfire to @DoubleElevenLtd. You can also Tweet to ask our designers questions on the Arenas or anything else to do with Frozen Synapse Prime on PC.

We’ll keep you up to date with which Arenas are winning each day of the poll.

Voting will end on Tuesday 4th November at 5:00pm GMT.

Frozen Synapse Prime is coming to PlayStation®3 in November!

By | Frozen Synapse Prime | No Comments

Exciting news guys –  Frozen Synapse Prime is planning its descent onto PlayStation®3 in Europe, America and Asia in November.

The definitive turn-based strategy game will be released together with Prime’s soundtrack, both on its own and in the Prime Soundtrack Edition bundle across all stores.

Prime was first released on the PlayStation Vita in September after almost two years of dedicated development from our awesome team. Achieving an 84 Metacritic, it was met with positive critical response from both press and fans and our team are delighted to be bringing it to PS3 in November.

Frozen Synapse Prime in a Nutshell

For those new to the game, Prime is an asynchronous turn-based strategy game that allows players to take on multiple matches simultaneously. It also features a rich single player campaign set within a dystopian future, where you take on the role of a tactician to a resistance group attempting to prevent an evil corporation from taking over a city.

FrozenSynapsePrime_PS3Soundtrack_Screenshot_09

In Prime, players on two separate teams plot paths and issue orders to their squad members, creating a plan on a turn-by-turn basis. They can simulate the plan before committing to it but players then commit to them fully; this is called “Priming” a turn. Both plans are then played out and the resulting combat ensues!

FrozenSynapsePrime_PS3Soundtrack_Screenshot_05

Players will learn to develop their own strategies and try to predict those of their opponent in order to be the ultimate victor. There are various match types in Prime, meaning a player can be faced with various objectives, whether they need to predict their opponent’s strategy, wipe them out or complete a set of match objectives. The mind games between players are what keep it interesting, combine this with randomly generated maps, distinct match types and a very open combat system and this guarantees that no two matches will ever be the same.

For a quick look at what to expect from the PS3 version, check out the trailer here

Not too long ago, we put together a series of tutorial videos based on the PlayStation Vita version to give players an understanding of what to expect in Prime. From a combat perspective the videos cover everything from planning and engaging, controlling a map, covering your team to how to gain advantage by combining the strengths of your units. Finally, with the combat system understood the multiplayer videos shows the unique game modes that can all be played at the same time given Prime’s asynchronous style of play.

Frozen Synapse Prime: Out now on the PlayStation Store!

Hi Folks,

The support for Frozen Synapse Prime has been awesome so far and we are thrilled to announce that the game is launching in America today and Europe tomorrow!

We’d like to share a more in-depth look at the gameplay, focusing on some of the more advanced strategies and touch controls.

FSP has been designed in a way that anyone can become a competitive or advanced player, with a ton of depth under the surface. The only limits are your own creativity and deviousness.

FSP isn’t about luck in regards to who will win in a fire-fight, it’s totally down to you and your tactics. If a unit on your squad gets shot you’ll know why, and how to adapt next time. But when you take out an enemy, you know that you were able to outwit them.

Slide

KEYS TO VICTORY

Aside for the commands and moves, victory is just as much about the mind-games between two players, and FSP inspires you to anticipate and deceive your opponent.

Read the Terrain – You can’t ‘learn’ the maps in FSP. There are an infinite number of procedurally generated battlefields, as well as the ability to customize your own. How much cover does the map offer you? How can you best utilize this with the strengths of your squad?

Predict Your Opponents – Use the ability to assign plans to the enemy squad to answer those ‘what if’ scenarios. What if that grenadier tries to escapes his room? Or tries to toss a grenade out? Predict your opponent’s options and then eliminate them.

EnemyCone

Work Together – All classes are balanced in FSP with varying strengths and weaknesses. Rocket Launchers can blow up walls but are vulnerable in close-quarters; use them to target rooms to create new routes for your other units, or flush the enemy out.

Advanced Commands

Quick plans with simple paths and aiming can get the job done, but adding extra layers with the more advanced commands will give you an edge.

Use Targeting to eliminate the biggest threats first, or target specific areas.

targetroom5

Use the Continue-on-Sight and Slide commands to fine-tune your paths and aiming, so units are not moving slower through the map when they don’t need to.

Use the Check command to move quickly through rooms, only glancing in specific areas. If there’s a threat your unit will engage, if not he’ll be able to cover ground quickly.

TOUCH CONTROL

The integration of touch control in FSP and its evolution throughout development has been an interesting journey. We initially focused on only getting the camera controls onto the front touch screen, and progressing onto laying down the most common plans and paths players would use.

From there we really challenged ourselves to integrate full touch controls throughout the game, and designed a minimalist user-interface for Vita around that philosophy.

It’s quick and easy to lay down simple and affective plans with full touch controls, or a mix of both touch and button input, whatever you prefer.

Please check out all our other FSP vids on the blog and thanks for listening! As always feel free to follow @DoubleElevenLtd for the latest on Frozen Synapse Prime!

Frozen Synapse Coming Soon, Name Change and More!

By | Frozen Synapse Prime | No Comments

FSPrime_Logoplusbackground

We’re really pleased to announce that if you’ve got an itch for turn based strategy on Vita, you’ll only be scratching till this sometime fall! Frozen Synapse is coming to Vita exclusively in just a few short months, and there’s a host of other things to mention as well!

I’m pleased to officially say that the game you’ve known as Frozen Synapse: Tactics will now be known as Frozen Synapse Prime.

We originally chose to add “Tactics” to drop a very obvious hint of the turn based nature of the game. As well, for those who knew the game it was also an in reference to one of the game’s main characters. Looking at it today and applying some hindsight, after almost two years of development and original thinking we put into FS Prime, plus the three years Mode7 put into the original, award-winning game we hope that after almost five years of work this is the best edition!

Back in February, our design manager posted on how we’ve evolved FS into Prime, and talked about (amongst other things) how we’ve made it more intuitive. Still, we know Prime is a very deep tactical turn based game, so in the coming weeks we’re going to help you become better acquainted with it. In future blog posts we will be tutoring you through specifics of the game, combat system and the online modes.

Speaking of getting acquainted with the game, if you’re one of the lucky souls fortunate enough to attend Gamescom in Cologne this year, Prime will be available to play at Sony’s booth! You may even see our Design Manager there too!

Currently the game is in the final stages of testing; particularly we’re tweaking and balancing all the sounds in the game and checking through it all in French, Italian, German, Spanish and Japanese. It’s a big task! The story in the campaign has the depth and size of a novel 🙂

That’s it for now folks, stay tuned to the blog or @FSTactics for more information!
