LittleBigPlanet PS Vita Scoops Game of the Year for Double Eleven

By | Double Eleven, LittleBigPlanet

Last night’s Tiga Awards 2012 celebrated the successes within the UK games industry over the last twelve months. Categories stretched from specific game genres, all the way to best publisher, service provider and game of the year, amongst several others.

Double Eleven were shortlisted for the Leadership award under Lee Hutchinson, CEO, and best Debut Game and Game of the Year for LittleBigPlanet PlayStation Vita. Competition featured some truly excellent games and companies, but we are absolutely delighted to announce that we scooped the prizes for Leadership and Game of the Year.

Congratulations to all the winners in the other categories and thanks to Tiga for hosting a brilliant event. You can see all the winners on Tiga’s website.

The Game is Released!

By | LittleBigPlanet

The day has finally come! LittleBigPlanet™ PlayStation®Vitahas launched!

(Unfortunately you’ll have to wait until Thursday for Japan, Friday for the UK, and next Tuesday for the US)

We’ve had an incredible journey here at Double Eleven since the company was formed in 2010, and it’s a real defining moment for us to be releasing our first game. Our entire team have worked exceptionally hard to ensure Sackboy’s latest adventure fits perfectly onto Sony’s new handheld – we really wanted to make Media Molecule proud of our translation of their legacy onto the Vita.

With our partners at Tarsier Studios, we believe we’ve done it! The game has so far received excellent reviews and we are delighted to currently possess the highest Metacritic score for the platform to date. It means a great deal to us to have this amazingly positive feedback and we can’t wait to hear what the community thinks of our game too.

Check out a few snippets from some of the reviews below:

CVG – 9.2/10

“It’s the best LittleBigPlanet single-player campaign on any format”

Edge – 9/10

“this is the most inventive LittleBigPlanet campaign yet”

“If you’ve been writing the series’ Vita appearance off as a compromise or a contractual obligation, you’re in for something of a treat.”

Wired

“Basically [my kids and I] create a skateboard of some description and then attach a rocket. The kids have had hours of fun, often in hysterics, driving it into various other objects or making jumps.”

PSNation – A+

“Taking everything unique about the Vita and mixing it seamlessly with the familiar gameplay of the series, Tarsier and Double Eleven have crafted the definitive version of LittleBigPlanet.”

IGN – 9/10

“It’s everything you loved from the past games boiled down into a package you can play anywhere at any time.”

But for those less lucky, fear not! Some wonderful LittleBigPlanet™ fans have been given special permission to create and share some videos of their experiences with the beta.

LittleBigPlanet PS Vita Beta Impressions

By | LittleBigPlanet

We’re really excited about LittleBigPlanet PS Vita and have been working very hard on making it a fantastic game. Having a public beta opens the game to you, the wonderful community that have adored the previous games and are our harshest judges. We want to make sure this version lives up to your expectations and that we do Sackboy proud. So it’s no surprise that we were apprehensive as to the feedback we’d get from showing such a big chunk of our work to yourselves and the public.

How wonderful it is, then, to read such lovely feedback from you all; both on news sites and in forum posts. We can’t show it all, but here are a few snippets from across the internet:

thesixthaxis.com

“It’s no longer reasonable to think of LittleBigPlanet as a platformer. It’s not. Having spent some time with an updated build of the beta that’s currently doing the rounds, Sackboy’s original focus – leaping around and grabbing onto sponge – might still manifest itself throughout the game but it’s a game much more focused on widening the scope on what this hugely powerful tool can deliver.

[…]

Further refined? Jumping is better, for starters: it’s less floaty and much easier to gauge your landings; the level design feels tighter, a no brainer given the inclusion of several key community designers from the earlier LittleBigPlanet games to the team, and it all just feels a little more snappier and exciting.

It’s not hard to appreciate how deep LittleBigPlanet Vita is and how important it is to the platform. Above everything else before – and that includes WipEout and Uncharted – LBP demonstrates just how powerful the Vita is and what it can do in the hands of talented developers. It’s visually strong, plays pretty much perfectly and offers more depth (and potential longevity) than everything else on the system put together. Hyperbole, perhaps, but the potential is there.

If there is such a thing as a killer app, this is it.”

pocketgamer.co.uk

“The most striking thing the beta build of LittleBigPlanet on Vita is just how well the team behind it has captured the full home console experience.

LittleBigPlanet for PSP was an incredibly impressive feat of design, cramming a goodly proportion of the PS3 game onto a machine barely more powerful than toaster. But the forthcoming Vita title is shaping up to be a no-compromise entry in the series.

For one thing, it’s looking gorgeous. Light sources react realistically to your Sack Person toddling past them, and textures appear tactile as you reach out and physically move many of them with a swipe of the touchscreen.

[…]

The toolset with which to make them is much expanded, and not not just with options to integrate touchscreen gestures into levels. Taking a leaf out of LittleBigPlanet 2’s book, the level editor lets you make entirely new types of game.”

PCWorld

“When I first laid eyes on the game, I was immediately surprised by the high-level graphics.LittleBigPlanet actually looks better on the Vita than it does on the PS3, and that’s no exaggeration. While part of that will be due to the smaller screen, it’s still quite astounding to note all of the crisp detail in the material of Sackboy’s body.”

There’s still lots of work left to go, and thanks to those dedicated beta testers, we have a host of changes and bug fixes to make. The game will be better because of you, so a big ‘thank you’ is aimed at you all.

The NDA has now also been officially lifted, so feel free to tell all your friends, family and forum aquaintances of your experience on the beta and what you found in our game that you really liked. For us, we’re going to continue working to ensure this lovely little PS Vita game is all that you hope for!
