Playtesting @ Double Eleven

Thank you for your interest in playtesting at Double Eleven. Get early access to upcoming games, give your feedback, and get rewards.

If you have any questions, check out the sections below for more information. If you can’t find the answer to your question or need support, please email us on [email protected].

Playtesting is the industry’s way of getting games in front of players as early as possible. We do this by giving exclusive early access to gamers and members of the public, with the intention of getting feedback and identifying a game’s early strengths and flaws.

Playtests can give us a good idea of whether a product will be commercially viable upon release, and even help us figure out who the target market is.

Playtesting isn’t Quality Assurance (QA), which is the process in which professional testers look for and report specific bugs (even though there will be plenty of them), but instead is more focused on the experience of playing and how it makes you feel.

The most important thing for us is receiving honest feedback. We don’t mind if you didn’t like the game, just tell us what you think about it.

Once we have enough applicants, we will select playtesters based on the specific game’s requirements, invite them in (our studio or one of the Uni labs), and let them playtest one of our early builds.

Don’t worry if you don’t get selected to playtest straight away; there will be plenty of opportunities with different titles.

Where do we playtest?
Playtesting is carried out either in our Middlesbrough Office or a University computer lab. The venue will be confirmed when invitations are sent.

Are there any restrictions on who can apply?
You must be over the age of 18 and live in Middlesbrough or the surrounding region (so you can get to us!).

What if I’m not a gamer?
Whether you play 60 hours a week or have never held a controller, we still want to hear from you. We’re interested in all skill and experience levels, so if you’re not a confident gamer please still get in touch.

What’s in it for you?
It depends on the project, but rewards can range from in-game credits, to free copies of games, to promotional swag. You’ll also be fed and watered during the playtest, so you don’t need to worry about packing a lunch.

Sign up to be considered for playtesting by completing the form linked above. If you have any trouble using the form, you can email [email protected] and someone will endeavour to help.

If you make an error on your form, follow the same link and you will be allowed to make edits for ten days after you initially submit.

If you change your mind or can no longer commit to playtesting, please contact us via email at [email protected] as soon as possible, and we’ll take care of it. The more notice you can give us the better, as it allows someone else to take your space.
